About Woodford Bowls Club

Woodford Bowls Club, with the motto of “Friendship First”, was formed in 1952 with a lot of the work done by volunteer labour and materials donated by generous citizens.  The original clubhouse was demolished and replaced in 1975.

The clubhouse is currently also the home of the PLAY-ITT, where musicians meet on Thursday nights for an Open Mic session and perform for a keen, regular audience.  Hot meals at bargain prices are also available at this event.

The club boasts a bar, Pool Table and Gaming Machines. Open at 4 pm Tuesday to Saturday, meals are available on Thursdays & Fridays from 6 pm or by arrangement.

Run by volunteers with a small number of employees, the club comprises both male and female bowling members with a number of non-bowling  social members.  The premises are available for hire, events can be catered by arrangement with the Provedore.

Club and open competitions are run throughout the season and are managed by the Bowls Committee with the overall control of the club administered by the Management Board.

The single grass green of 8 rinks is maintained to a very high standard by volunteers and is generally available for practice and social bowling when not in use for competition or closed for maintenance.

Whether enjoying a quiet drink, watching or playing a game of bowls you’re always welcome at Woodford Bowls Club.

Melbourne Cup  Celebrations – 6th November 2012

This year it was the Bowls Club’s turn to host the Melbourne Cup festivities and celebrate we did.    The morning started early with guests arriving at 10am and the sweeps did a roaring trade.   Before lunch a fashion parade with a difference was enjoyed by all as representatives from local businesses – Australia Post, L J Hooker, IGA, Mack’s Mowers & Motorcycles, Jandi’s, Clews News, Fashionation and Woodford Bowls Club – strutted their stuff in outfits depicting their business.  The Winning outfit was from IGA with LJ Hooker runner-up.   It was a really great start to the day and thanks to all who participated.  A cold smorgasbord lunch was then enjoyed followed by fashions of the field, games, dessert and of course the Race. All in all, it was a great day and thanks to Ros for her innovative ideas and to everyone who made the day such a success
